7 days to go...

November has long been my favorite writing month. I joined NaNoWriMo (www.nanowrimo.org for those interested in taking a peak) in 2005 after receiving an email from a close friend, almost daring me to try.
Well, I was just hooked. Write 50,000 words in a month and you win! That's it... just 175 pages, easy right? Let me tell you, it's not easy. It's crazy. It's nuts. It's mind-blowing. But it's not easy. Yet, when you cross that threshold, that 50,000th word in less than 30 days (and that word is usually something less than dramatic, like 'was' ) it's like you've climbed Mount Everest, right in your own home...

So I've begun writing each of the books in the Destinies series in November. No, they were not nearly complete when the last day came to call, but I did accomplish the 50,000 mark each time. And have so far, for 5 of the 6 years I've participated. (I was HUGELY pregnant in 2006, and couldn't sit at my computer... I didn't win, nor even write much that year.)

I will continue that tradition this November 1 as well, with the beginning of book 3. I've been looking forward to this story for some time. One of the main characters has been a long time favorite, giving me MUCH more information than I truly need. It's going to be a blast to finally add him into the mix.

I'm more than prepared. In fact, the best I have ever been prepared fro any of my previous NaNo's. But the trick now is, I'm not just writing like a mad woman on a new first draft of a story... no, I'm also continuing to work very hard on revisions for book 1. A revision that I believe brings it close to submission status. Every sentence is being scrutinized... more than once. Every word is fighting for its life. ... All while I go crazy happy writing out the next chapter to the world I love.

... in 7 more days and counting... ;)
